Priority for Oklahoma: Curb Unnecessary Tax Breaks

Together-OK-Logo-SocialAs part of the Together Oklahoma coalition, OK Policy has developed four top priority issues for this year’s Legislative session. These priorities have been identified as practical, politically achievable steps to move us toward lasting, broad-based prosperity.

One of these priorities is to curb unnecessary tax breaks.

Unnecessary and unaffordable tax breaks have hollowed out funding for Oklahoma services. In particular, a tax exemption for horizontal drilling has become dramatically more expensive in recent years, as what was once a new and risky technology becomes commonplace. We are subsidizing highly profitable wells even as we cut services for Oklahoma families.

It’s time to halt the march of tax cuts and reign in unnecessary tax breaks. If we value our children, safety, infrastructure, health, and economy, we need to invest in our core state services.
