OK Policy names new Communications Director

Dave Hamby, Communications Director

The Oklahoma Policy Institute has named Dave Hamby as its communications director to oversee the organization’s communication and media relations programs. He started at OK Policy in October 2019 and serves as a member of the organization’s leadership team. 

A longtime Tulsa resident, Hamby has more than 25 years of experience as an award-winning communicator, including overseeing communication programs for Oklahoma higher education institutions and other organizations. 

Before joining OK Policy, he most recently served as director of public relations for Rogers State University where he managed the school’s external communication programs. He also was a member of the president’s leadership team for the four-year regional university based in Claremore. He served in a similar role for five years at the University of Tulsa. 

“We’re excited to bring someone with Dave’s depth of experience to join the OK Policy team to expand our reach and leverage our high-quality policy analysis to a broader audience,” said Executive Director Ahniwake Rose. 

Hamby’s professional experience also includes communication and marketing roles at Oklahoma State University and the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce in Arkansas. After earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from OSU, he worked as a reporter for three years at the second-largest daily newspaper in Arkansas. He and his wife Melissa live in Tulsa and have two daughters.
