Upcoming Event: Workshop on hiring ex-offenders and long-term unemployed, August 5

On Friday, August 5th, Moore Norman Technology Center’s HIRE program and the Sooner Human Resource Society are hosting a one-of-a-kind workshop in partnership with The State Chamber, the Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance, Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, DHS, State Regents for Higher Ed, Dept. of Career Tech, Dept. of Corrections, et al.

The conference, “Barriers and Bridges…Reframing your Corporate Culture,” will address the economic cultures and challenges that develop with long-term unemployment, as well as sessions designed to address employer questions and concerns about hiring those with criminal backgrounds.  With increasing numbers of males and females being released to return to our communities, the discussion is important and timely.

Speakers include Speaker of the House Kris Steele; Okla. County District Attorney David Prater; Nathan Whatley, Attorney with McAfee and Taft (employment law); Richard McPherson, Executive Director of OESC;  and a panel of employers discussing their corporate involvement in hiring disadvantaged Oklahomans.

The event will take place at the Moore Norman Technology Center’s South Penn Campus, located at the corner or SW 134th and S. Penn Ave., in south Oklahoma City. The workshop is open to the public and all employers.

Registration is $25 and is limited to 250; reservations may be made by going http://tinyurl.com/Barriers-Bridges.

  1. I have to work and will be unable to attend the workshop. I think that the workshop should be repeated and held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Will there be a video available for purchase?
