Job Announcement: NE Field Organizer

Oklahoma Policy Institute seeks to hire a part-time field organizer for northeast Oklahoma to support the work of our grassroots advocacy citizen coalition, Together Oklahoma (TOK). TOK is a nonpartisan coalition of citizens working towards equitable and fiscally responsible policies that will allow all Oklahomans to prosper. Field organizers will bring awareness of TOK priority issues to their dedicated region with a focus on tax and budget issues, health care, economic security, and criminal justice. Organizers will work to expand our membership base, support our volunteer leaders, and equip and train individuals for effective advocacy. Organizers will develop local outreach strategies and convey our policy proposals throughout their region in an engaging and empowering way.

Duties include:

• Assisting volunteer chapter leaders with Together Oklahoma events and activities, including monthly member meetings
• Increasing the visibility of TOK through tabling and participation in community events
• Promoting TOK and recruiting new members
• Making presentations to local community groups
• Identifying and recruiting coalition partners for TOK advocacy through one-on-one meetings and events
• Tracking attendance and other metrics for reporting to TOK statewide coordinator
• Engaging communities of color and Oklahomans disproportionately affected by state policies in TOK advocacy work
• Facilitating connections between TOK members and elected officials

Candidates do not need a college degree. Prior organizing and experience with Together Oklahoma is preferred, but not required. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in grassroots advocacy and public policy. Candidates must live in northeast Oklahoma with the ability to drive throughout the region.

This position is for 20-25 hours per week at $15/hour. This will be a one-year contract position. A gas stipend for travel is included. We expect the position to begin in September 2019.
