OK Policy hosting Aug. 15 nonpartisan town hall about the state questions on the August ballot

The Oklahoma Policy Institute will hold a free, nonpartisan town hall on Saturday, Aug. 15, to help voters learn about the two state questions on Oklahoma’s Aug. 25 ballot. Presenters from OK Policy and the ACLU of Oklahoma will discuss the two state questions on the ballot. 

Media interviews will be available from 1:00-1:15 p.m., or after the event concludes. To schedule interviews outside of those windows, please call/text OK Policy’s Communication Director Dave Hamby at 918-810-0182.

Event details:

During the one-hour town hall, attendees can:

  • Learn what SQ 844 and SQ 846 would change.
  • Hear straightforward, fact-based explanations of both measures.
  • Ask questions in an open, respectful setting.
  • Get information to help them cast an informed ballot.

What’s on the Aug. 25 ballot:

  • State Question 844: Would allow the Legislature to change how it reimburses local schools and communities for certain manufacturing property tax exemptions.
  • State Question 846: Would change the Oklahoma Constitution to require proof of identity for all voting methods; lawmakers are responsible for setting the rules for what counts as proof.

Important voter information:

  • All registered Oklahoma voters can take part in the Aug. 25 election, no matter their political party.
  • OK Policy has shared explainer videos and fact sheets about both state questions.
  • Voters can also find information about sample ballots, absentee voting, and early voting in OK Policy’s Aug. 25 election resources.
