The Northwest Arkansas Pre-Legislative Session Summit happened in Bentonville on Tuesday. The day included panel discussions and presentations designed to prepare attendees and child advocates for the legislative session that begins in January.
David Blatt, the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Policy Institute, was the keynote speaker. Blatt discussed his state’s budget crisis and how Arkansas can avoid a similar situation.
Laura Kellams, NWA Director of Arkansas Advocates for Families, was at the meeting on Tuesday.
“Certainly low income kids don’t have much of a voice in the process so we want lawmakers to come here and see there are a big group of people who vote and really care about the issues,” Laura Kellams said.
Kellams also said their top priorities for 2017 are funding for pre-k and ARKids First health insurance
