Oklahoma Policy announces new northeast Oklahoma field organizer

The Oklahoma Policy Institute has hired D’Marria Monday, a Tulsa community advocate and social entrepreneur, to grow its Together Oklahoma chapters in northeast Oklahoma, including the Tulsa metro area.

Monday will serve as Together Oklahoma’s field organizer in northeast Oklahoma as the grassroots organization works to educate and advocate for policies that allow all Oklahomans to thrive. Together Oklahoma is staffed and funded by OK Policy, a non-partisan Oklahoma think tank.

Monday has demonstrated expertise in using her lived experience as a formerly incarcerated woman to shine a light on the challenges faced by justice-involved Oklahomans. In 2018, she successfully led a legislative grass-roots campaign to end the shackling of incarcerated pregnant women in Oklahoma, and received local and regional recognition for her work. In addition to her role at OK Policy, she serves as the Visionary Founder of Block Builderz, which offers community-led solutions as alternatives to incarceration.

Monday graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship with a minor in marketing and management. She has previous experience with OK Policy as an alumnus of its 2018 Summer Policy Institute, a four-day annual workshop that helps better inform college students and recent graduates about crucial Oklahoma policy issues.

“D’Marria has a strong history of educating and engaging her community around state policy issues,” said Sabine Brown, Outreach and Legislative Director for OK Policy. “We’re excited to add someone with D’Marria’s talent, passion and experience as Together Oklahoma continues to connect the desire of Oklahomans for better state policies with the tools that will make their voices heard.”

Together Oklahoma members advocate for a prosperous Oklahoma through strong schools, thriving families, and safe communities. Together Oklahoma operates seven chapters in Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Ardmore, Lawton, McAlester, Norman and Stillwater.
